2014
Opening event at Minchinhampton GC
13th April 2014

The sun shone on the first event of the Partnership’s Intermediates’ Social Golf 2014 calendar. Recently renamed Gloucestershire's Unisex Cult Project, and organised by Alex Newman,it all  got off to a great start with seven players enjoying the day.

Alex reported: Allan Mathura won the informal competition with a very respectable 39 points. Although work was being done on the greens we couldn't have asked for better conditions on the course. Many thanks to Minchinhampton!  It's with this optimism we turn to our next event at Stinchombe on the 29th!

2013 News

SUPER SIXES GOLF FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

More than 30 ‘rounds’ of golf were played on the Super Sixes Golf Course at Park Campus, Cheltenham last week.

Students from Gloucestershire University, established players as well as beginners, enjoyed the challenge of this exciting new Golf Roots format – despite freezing temperatures.

The course can be set up anywhere -- a school playing field or just a piece of field. Our thanks to Mark Boscott from Golf Roots, who directed the setting up of our course, and to the campus ground staff for cutting the grass!

The course is made up of six holes incorporating hazards such as bunkers, ponds and out of bounds using different coloured cones and players use TriGolf or Golf Xtreme kit. The University students used the Golf Xtreme Kit and played several formats, from Texas Scramble to matchplay.

And the students’ verdict was a unanimous ‘Great fun!’ ….. with the request to do it all again – in the summer!

Medals for all -- for playing in sub zero temperatures!

 INTERMEDIATES’ PROJECT

The Gloucestershire County Golf Partnership is organising monthly weekend golf events again for intermediates (ages roughly 18 – 25) during the Spring and Summer of 2013. This is the third year of the project

These will be mixed events, for all standards, at clubs around the county aiming to offer the opportunity for young people to enjoy an afternoon’s social golf together for a minimal cost. Clubs have generously given courtesy of their courses – so the only cost is the £5 entry fee

Players may enter as many, or as few, events as they wish. The object is to be as informal and as much fun as we can. Prizes? – Yes, but they are very, very small!

So ….. are you interested? Maybe you are a ‘visiting’ student, or from one of the counties bordering Gloucestershire – you are very welcome to join us!

If so, contact Jennifer May. Email j-may3@sky.com
